St. Andrew’s church in Łukowica
|
Łukowica gmina: Łukowica |
St. Andrew’s church in Łukowica was built in 1693-97 while the tower was added before1720. It is an oriented (its presbytery faces east) and tripartite structure. Over the presbytery and nave is a single-ridge roof covered with sheet metal. At the polygonally closed presbytery are two symmetrical annexes of interesting octahedral shape. The eastern wall of the presbytery features a Gethsemane with statues of the 18th and 19th centuries. Inside are a ceiling adorned with 19th-century polychrome decoration and the main altarpiece (late 1600s) with a painted image showing St. Andrew. In the nave stands a stone baptismal font (1693). The church used to house a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child (1300s) yet it was stolen during Nazi occupation. |
